ORANGE COUNTY PSYCHOLOGIST

The Orange County Psychologist (OCP) contains the latest news of importance to psychologists, addressing practice concerns and new developments in the field of psychology as well as a classified section offering career opportunities and office space availability.  OCP also offers comprehensive professional information with its editorial content. We invite submissions from members of the Orange County Psychological Association (OCPA).   Articles are also sought for re-print from other professional publications.  OCP is published bi-monthly by OCPA.  Please review our Submission Guidelines.

Information to Prospective Authors

Length - Publishable articles in OCP generally range from 250 to 1500 words.
Content - The editors encourage articles that cover a wide range of topics (i.e., scientific advances, professional practice issues, legislative matters, healthcare climate, etc.). Diverse views, critical analyses, theoretical or innovative ideas are also encouraged.
Style - Because OCP articles are limited in length, it is important to write clearly and succinctly.   Our readers are mostly psychologists; thus, it is unnecessary to define common psychological terms.  However, the OCP is read by psychologists in all specialties, so be sure to define terms unique to your specialty.
Cultural Mindfulness - Psychologists are very attentive to socio-cultural nuances in any communications, especially in articles written for them (us) as a professional audience. Any writing about gender, race/ ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability must be culturally "correct" and free of bias. If in doubt, please refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association Fifth Edition (2001).
References - As in writing for any professional or scientific audience, cite references in the body of the article when reporting data, referencing other sources, quoting statements or views from other persons, or otherwise substantiating ideas in the article. The number of references should range from 1 to 6 when possible; references should be listed at the end of the article. Long reference lists may not be published due to space limitations.
Author Identification - At the end of the article, write a brief bio-sketch of the author(s).  Bio-sketches should include name, work setting or affiliation, professional specialty, and information on how to contact author(s). Please refer to recent editions of the OCP for samples.
Editorial Responsibility - The editors reserve the right to edit publishable articles to OCP standards; and to reject any article they deem inappropriate, substandard, biased, inflammatory, or otherwise detract from the goals of the OCPA or integrity of professional psychology.

Email Submissions  - Email as attachment to NewsletterArticle@ocpapsych.org. We can accommodate products of all commonly used word processing programs.
Author Photo - (Electronic) Along with your article submission, include as an attachment a high resolution (300 dpi or higher) digital photo file (jpeg or tiff).

EDITORIAL POLICIES

OCP is the official publication of OCPA, a non-profit professional association of psychologists in Orange County. OCP is published for and on behalf of the members of the OCPA to advance psychology as a science and a profession and as a means of promoting the public interest. The goal of OCP is to foster discussion of topics of clinical and professional interest to psychologists in Orange County and California.

OCP reserves the right to unilaterally reject or edit articles  which it deems not to be in the best interests of these objectives, or which by their tone, content or appearance are not in keeping with the goals of the publication. OCPA welcomes the submission of articles  to OCP; however, the publication of an article does not necessarily imply that it represents the position or policy of OCPA. OCPA is not responsible for any claims made in any published article. OCP will not publish any article that is, in the judgment of OCPA, discriminatory to any group of people. All submissions to OCP should be professional in nature, tone, and content. Submissions that contain questionable factual veracity and/or are potentially libel will be edited to maintain the publication's journalistic standards. The editors reserve the right to reject or revise submissions for clarity, professionalism, available space, length, and/or libelous potential.  The number of pages devoted to articles will vary depending on advertising space used in each issue.
