Course Description

This course is meant to introduce psychologists to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) following EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) Standards. The course will introduce the Adaptive Information Processing Model, the eight phases of EMDR treatment and the therapist training model for utilizing EMDR in clinical practice. Emphasis will be placed on ethical use of EMDR in clinical settings. This course will introduce potential diagnoses being encountered with EMDR as a trauma-focused intervention and appropriate standards of practice as created by EMDRIA.

NOTE: This is an introductory CE program and if one wants certification for providing this type of treatment, one must meet multiple criteria in training. Attending this session is NOT sufficient training to prepare psychologists to treat Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) but is intended to increase therapist understanding and knowing treatment options by trained professionals.

Learning Objectives
1. Describe what EMDR is and list three techniques used to deliver EMDR in a clinical setting.

2. Identify three regular client populations seen in EMDR therapy and at least two protocol variations.

3. Describe two principles of the Adaptive Information Processing Model.

4. List the eight phases of EMDR treatment.

5. Describe ethical practice of EMDR and the five levels of training model standards created by EMDRIA.

Biography
Dr. Tiffany Crawshaw received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2008 from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Diego. Additionally, Dr. Crawshaw holds a Master’s of Education in Counseling (University of San Diego 1996) and Bachelor’s of Psychology (Chapman University 1994). Dr. Crawshaw has graduate level teaching experience at Argosy University San Diego (2008-2010) including courses in Ethics, Psychopathology, Maladaptive Behaviors, Counseling, Domestic Violence, Program Evaluation, Human Development and Professionalization Group. In her internships and early career, Dr. Crawshaw worked with high school students at risk of failure, at home with families struggling with parenting issues, and women being reunited with their children following incarceration.  In 2019, she became Certified by EMDRIA in the use of EMDR. In 2022, Dr. Crawshaw became an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant and consults with other clinicians on cases and helps them obtain certification in EMDR.
